Info on Hordsville
Hordsville, near Stanleytown, was built around 1836 by Colonel George "Rusty" Hairston. This house has been the home of the Hairstons since and was a copy of a house Colonel Hairston had seen in Richmond while he was serving in the Senate. The ... brick used in the construction [was made on site] and the iron used was from the iron foundry that was operated by the Hairstons and was located where Fairystone State Park is now. The land on which Hordsville was built was purchased from John Hord, an Englishman, so the house and the community were known as Hordsville. Near the house is the cemetery referred to as "God's Acre" where many of the Hairston and Penn families were buried.
